Should I run the wood vinyl tile down the long part of the room? Would it make the room look too narrow?

If I run the tile the long way in the hallway it will run perpendicular to the tile in the other rooms. Would this look okay?

Ultimately, it is you that must decide which looks better, Lengthwise or Cross wise. Lay down several pieces in both directions and see how they look.

Things to consider is that going lengthwise will require less cutting of pieces and less waste.

Purchase "Transition" strips to put down where the hallway and room meet. That way you can have the hallway and room both run lengthwise.

Use the transition strips to UNDER the doors of rooms opening into the hallway. Placing the strips under the doors hides the carpet from the rooms, and when inside the rooms, hides the wood from the hallway.

Do the room on a 45 degree, or, for a bit more work & uniqueness, do herringbone.

When we did the vinyl click tiles when finishing our basement, we had to decide the same issue. We did exactly what Ranger suggests. Just lay down some tiles and try to picture the entire room or floor finished that way. If you think it will look better lengthwise vs perpendicular (or perhaps even on a diagonal, but that may make for a lot of cutting and waste!), that would be your choice.
