Question:
What color goes best with bright yellow in a bathroom?

We are getting ready to paint our bathroom (because the wallpaper needs replaced), and we are trying to choose the right color to use. Unfortunately, the counter top is a fairly bright yellow and replacing it is not an option. Furthermore, the cupboard under the sink (I think it's called a vanity) and the floor tile are brown, the toilet, sink, and tub are white and the room is on the small side. What color of wall paint would look good for this room? I think a bold/dark blue would look good. Someone else suggested that a light gold/beige might work. How do either of these sound? Any other color suggestions?

I moved into an apartment with a similiar issue. It had 70's style yellow tile in the shower, and at the time it didn't seem to make sense to replace the tile (it was in great shape)

I painted the room white, decorated with black picture frames and accessories, and it looked great!

The white also made the small space brighter, and seem a little bigger. A dark color like the blue you mentioned I'm afraid would have the opposite effect.

Hope this helps:)

I assuming that the tiles are bright yellow? Think about yellow in nature. There is the black-eyed susan with the lovely browns, and greens to mellow out the yellow. There are also lemons and lemon trees. Whatever colors you add brown kind of brings the yellow to earth and greens (if in plants or in paint) added to a bathroom is delightful! You can tie in the other colors by adding a vase of flowers that only have a small touch of the yellow you are trying to stir away from. Yellow is a great color to play with the light too, trying different yellows together is a great way to bring the color to a more subtle hue. The color of sunshine brightens up your day with some neutral down to earth darker colors will keep it "grounded". Take some colors on swatches and lay them in there before you commit. Enjoy playing being creative in this way is very therapeutic and after moving I am sure you can use it as a fun and relaxing project. I hope that you will have much joy in your new home. Best wishes. Blue could definitely work, as long as it's the right blue. Beige or similar browns would also work, but I'd avoid gold. I suggest taking some pictures of your current bathroom (make sure to include close ups of all the various colors - the yellow counters, etc) and take them to a local housing store (Home Depot, etc) that has the paint swatches. With the pictures, you'll be able to see what colors would look good. Or if you want to avoid pictures, just go to the store and pick up some possible colors you like, take them home, and hold them up to the walls.

I like the bold blue idea, but would try finding a color scheme in an accessory item to use as a pallet.

I like your blue idea much much better than the gold/beige one. If you aren't afraid of bold color, a deep rich mocha would work with the yellow and the floors, but I'd add some red or a splash of orange for accent! Sometimes it's easier to choose a shower curtain or a piece of art that you like with the colors you have first and then choose a shade from one of those. Maybe something here will inspire you:

(the teal shade in this painting would look great)

I would go with either purple, orange or lime green. Hope this helped you out!
