In what design style does a deep-pile or shag carpet come from?

I'm looking at Art Deco and modern styles. Which style in perticular does the shag carpet fall into or come from? Is a shag carpet part of what makes the room art deco?

They have gotten all designer on us and now they call it "frieze" pronounced friz-ae. Mohawk makes a realy retro one that has that 70's look you want.

Shag carpet was "hot" in the late 1960's and 1970's.
