Question:
Packaging for returns at Home Depot?

I bought a new vanity light at Home Depot about a month ago. I bought it because at the time, I had a very large mirror that went up to the ceiling of my loft by my bathroom sink, and the hole for the lighting was cut into the glass, and the previous vanity light was mounted onto the mirror.

It was mounted onto the mirror with sticky tape and while gently trying to remove the base backing for the old vanity light, I cracked the mirror. Needless to say I had to rip out this whole large mirror that was glued to the wall, but I don't mind because now I can get a smaller, nicer looking mirror.

That means I can now mount my vanity light to the wall rather than on top of the mirror.

The vanity light I bought from Home Depot was one with a long backing because I figured there would be gunk behind the mount on the mirror from the old vanity and I wanted to make sure it was covered when I replaced the lights.

But now I can just get a nicer vanity light that mounts over the wiring hole and goes better with the rest of my decor.

I'd like to return the old vanity light to Home Depot, but I already had opened it and laid the parts out before I cracked the mirror. I haven't thrown away any of the original cardboard and bubble wrap, but it's all mixed in with other cardboard I was planning to throw out.

The light covers are still in their cardboard, I still have the original box and instructions, and the screws are still there but I opened the screw bag.

Will Home Depot take my return as long as all the parts are in the box? Or do I need to go through my cardboard trash pile and try to reconstruct all the protective packaging? If so, how could I figure out how it was all packed in there? I don't want to go buy another light to see how they packaged that then return both, and I don't think I can open a box in the store to see.

No problem - You MUST have a receipt, but other than that - they will take it back with no questions. You will need to fill out a return slip, give your name and contact information (so they will know if you are making a habit of this or not) - but other than that, they will take it back. As a courtesy, you should try to package it into the original packaging, but this is not required.

Ok - that is for my local Home Depot store - your store's policy could be different ...

See the link for our local Home Depot's return policy, the store return policy is at the bottom of that page.

To see if your Home Depot has a different return policy, go to the second link, insert your zip code and select the correct store. At the bottom of that page (AFTER you select the correct store), you will see "Return Policy & Return Center" under "Customer Service". Click that link to view the Home Depot's return policy for the store you are currently viewing.
