I would like to find some colors that are neutral, not something that is going to make this room look like an asian gift shop. no brights. something that gives it a nice dreamy backdrop feeling to furniture in grays, blacks, or browns? any links would be appreciated. style: i just moved to new zealand, so some type of color that will work here. thanks in advance, having a hard time with ideas for this room.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a pale color like "creme" (# 7556) might be a great choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

My sister just did the same thing to her living room but she paid an interior decorator $5,000 to decorate her living room. So here is your $5,000 advise for free:) She went with a flat mocha for the walls and a gloss white 5 inch molding around the ceiling. and a 4 inch more simple base molding in gloss white. She has three different neutral browns for the couch and chairs with each having a different texture. She used black end tables and coffee table. The drapes are a heavy material of deep purples and cranberry with faint hunter greens and gold streaming through. She uses cranberry colored accents atop the black wooden furniture. She got her furniture from directbuy.com. Her living room is beautiful with the thick rich colors that compliment the neutral mocha walls. Good luck. ha ha she would probably kill me if she knew I shared this for free LOL

Best thing to do is go to the local hardware store's paint section and look at the colors they have available. Best neutral colors are tan and brown. My favorite way to paint rooms is to pick a wall that is your focus wall, paint that a dark brown color and then paint the other 3 walls a much lighter brown or just plain white. Good luck

I am a big fan of different colors of sage greens. They made my entire home absolutely beautiful without screaming color. I have cherry wood floors and cabinets in my kitchens and baths, and use blacks, soft yellows, purples, reds and soft greens as accents. The colors just pop against the sages. I chose three colors of sage greens for my home. My great room and foyer are two story rooms and the home is 3500 sq. ft.

a nice mocha or sage green is lovely, you can also go gray with a hint of blue, this can be a very warm color when creamy accents are added.

I love Benjamin Moore's Historical Color Collection and have painted several rooms in my home using their colors.

Try www.BenjaminMoore.com they have a color viewer where you can "paint" virtual rooms.
