What colors do you suggest for a kitchen with stainless steel appliances, cherry peppercorn cabinetry, snow white granite countertops and (unfortunately) 80's disco white ceramic tile floors?

(The kitchen floor extends into the foyer, a hallway and two bathrooms so it would have been too costly to renovate.)

The snow white granite has purple and silver streaks in it. Picture here: http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/9573/010snowwhiteix7.jpg

You can see a cabinet sample in there, too. The only difference is we've gone with a slab door style, so ignore the style of the cabinet door.

I've made a couple computer mock-ups,

One in blue: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/293/bluenh0.png

Another in purple: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1797/purplelp9.png

Any suggestions?

i love the purple mock up you've done.

you might want to try red as well...it's a good compliment to those colours.

The existing color scheme suggests the need for some warmth and some pizazz. The blue and purple seem too cool and bland.

A light clay color on the walls could work, honey tones or a leaf green. Or you could go more 60's vivid--watermelon red, cantaloupe peach, (would skip the clear yellows, as they would make the granite look dirty,) or lime green, indigo blue.

Or you could take the subtle approach and use vivid, large scale accessories. You could use a pale taupe on the walls with lavender undertones, a pale periwinkle blue, or a pale cool gray.

Would you consider a graphic wallpaper? That would give you some visual texture and draw your eyes away from the other elements.

You are already working with white, black and stainless steel appliances (silver/gray) plus your small purple accents in your granite. Therefore, adding another color would not be needed nor recommended. A very light gray would coordinate well in your kitchen or else a very light subtle hint of the purple that is in your granite. Those would be the best choices for your kitchen walls to be painted. Good luck. It has a very modern contemporary theme going for it.

the purple would look really nice with the granite and the color also looks good with the dark cabinets. stainless steel can pretty much go with any color so i think purple would be best in this situation.

From the colors you showed, I like the blue best but it is still a cool look. If you want a warmer look, go with a salmon or coral (not bright red). Check this site and consider something like

"Pottery Urn" or "Rosette"

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think it would look wonderful to do a gray like "fawn brindle" (# 7640).

You can also take a photo of your room & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
