I saw Debbie Travis do this on one of her shows, it was a faux granite look. She has the info on her Painted House site. I don't know if I would do it, but it might work for you: http://www.painted-house.com/episodes/9/111/?view=04 I also saw her paint the formica countertops a solid color, I looked around but could only find the paint online.

Why don't you by some attractive flat topped tiles and stick them onto the worktops instead? You will need to buy some beading which comes to the same height because you will have to use this as a surround to give you a neat look. You will also need some wood to the depth of tiles/worktop to cover the edges. Really easy to do. Painting would look awful. At one time it was possible to buy laminate sheeting but you have to make sure there are no air bubbles when you stick it down, and once it's in place it can't be repositioned. Take your measurements to a DIY store, tell them what you want to do and they'll work everything out for you.

Don't even try! It will be a disaster!

The paint you refer to is really for covering old Formica doors and is rarely successful! It is also not really as described because without using an acid etch primer (which eats into the Formica to form a bond/seal) it is useless!

Tight budget or not - it won't work!

Your best bet is to look at your local Focus DIY store or similar and wait for the end of line deals and buy the worktops at a quarter of the normal price!

Or check out Ebay - I have found lots of worktops for customers on here (to replace on like for like because of discontinuation of range) - about £20 will get you a lot of worktop!

Yes, there are special paints for redoing formics countertops. They have the kits at Home Depot, possibly Lowes too. I believe they are a 4 step system. The end product looks great, like granite and comes in many colors. Regular paint will not work.

Home hardware has a product for finishing cement floors in the garage, it is a two faze issue that first you prim it then you use this second compound, i tried it at my mother in laws house it is very durable and looks great it has the look of stone or granite, it takes a little effort, i had to remove the sink and move the stove. but i can tell you the pros. could not have done better.

I would caution you if you use this in the house you should make sure there are no open flames this stuff could be a fire hazard and very dangerous,

Can't see how painting would help, why not use the adhesive on a roll for worktops? Or alternatively replace from end of range depending on the size of your kitchen. Best of luck

As tight as the budget may be I would really suggest you considered new worktops, paint will not provide a sanitary finish suitable for use in a kitchen.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/8intd

This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.
