Is your unglazed porcelain tile floor difficult to clean? Does it stain easily?

I'm looking at unglazed porcelain (not ceramic) tile flooring for my kitchen. From the research I've done, unglazed is apparently a bit more resistant to chipping or cracks and/or chipping or cracks won't show as much. The only thing that concerns me is possible staining. I did read in a few places that modern unglazed porcelain tile is so non-porous that it doesn't absorb stains, but I'd like to hear from people who actually have this type of floor to be sure.

So, do you like or hate your unglazed porcelain tile floor? Does it stain easily, and is it a pain to clean?

We have both in our home and the plus is that if we do chip it it's not very noticeable, I have not seen any staining in the unglazed, we used a epoxy grout which also does not stain , so it seems to be the best of both worlds, The porcelain has been in place for 4 years and we have a dog.and have no issues cleaning it.

Unglazed porcelain, also called pure or true porcelain is the most stain resistant of all the tile products. It is in fact hard to stain. You never need to seal the tile. Most people use glazed porcelain because it cost much less. Glazed porcelain is from $1.50 to $4, true porcelain cost start at $4.00 and goes way up. I sell tile and have unglazed porcelain in my home in the master bath and front entry. There is almost no other flooring easier to take care of than pure unglazed porcelain. At our store we give a 60 day change you mind warranty on our tile. No one has ever had us take up the pure porcelain tile and changed it out for something else.

Rlbendel gave you some good pointers. You must check if its a true porcelain , which most unglazed are(porcelains).Because of the make up of it , it is so non porous that it won t stain.

As far as the cracking or breaking of the tile itself, it depends on the method it is set. Even the poorest of tile won t break if set properly. And the highest of quality may crack/break if improperly set..So research the proper installation methods too.

Unglazed porcelain tile is supposed to be sealed thus preventing staining.

If you have already tried things like Bon Ami, Barkeeper's Friend, or Comet and still haven't gotten anywhere, you could try hydrochloric acid. You can get it at janitorial supply stores and possibly pool supply companies.
